Foundation courses and degrees

Computing and Technology Foundation courses and degrees provide a basis for deciding what to study at degree level and the chance to make choices about your future professional education and career.

Would you like to enter a degree or higher diploma course in computing or technology but you do not have sufficient grades or appropriate mathematical or scientific A-levels (or equivalents)? A one year Foundation course at Oxford Brookes is the first step toward an honours degree.

Do you have technical skills you would like to build on? A two-year Foundation degree course at a partner college might be just what you need to improve your job prospects for a technological career.

Foundation courses at Brookes

A Foundation course is a year-long course based in the Department of Computing and Communications Technologies on the Wheatley Campus to help you reach the entry requirements needed for degree level study in a particular subject area. We offer two Foundation courses:

  • The Computing Foundation course focuses on computing and IT skills and can prepare you for entering a university degree course in a computing and media technology related area.
  • The Technology Foundation course is an introduction to a broad range of principles and applications of technology.

If you successfully complete the foundation course in Computing or Technology, you can progress directly onto one of our BSc (Hons) degree courses in computing, mathematics, or media technology.

Foundation degrees

Oxford Brookes University partners with other further education institutions to offer Foundation degree courses. A Foundation degree course lasts two years full time (3 years part-time), and enables you to gain a qualification by building on your existing skills and experience.
